Ears - Myringotomy

A myringotomy is used to relieve pressure in the ear caused by middle ear infections. A small incision is made in the eardrum to allow for drainage and a tube may be placed in the opening to allow for ventilation of the middle ear for longer periods of time. This is frequently referred to as having tubes placed in the ears.
